"He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure." Psalm 40:2

20 Random Facts About Me {30 Chances to Get to Know Me Series}

{Note: This post was originally published in December 2013 on another blog I formerly had. This is a slightly updated repost.}

Here is post #1 in the 30 Chances to Get to Know Me list. Coming up with 20 facts about myself was much harder than I anticipated!

1.) I’m a Christian, saved from the judgment I deserve for my sin, by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and His life, death, and resurrection. I’d love nothing more than for you to trust Him too!

2.) I was an unwed teen mom. Pretty much all my life peers are like 8+ years older than me.

3.) I’m getting quite a bit of grey “highlights” already, so nowadays most folks don’t realize how young I am.

4.) I’ve moved 20 times in my life…so far. Daddy had a lot of job changes and I later married a military man. It seems as if we’ve settled down now. I really, really, really hope I don’t move ever again, until it’s to be present with the Lord.

5.) All 3 of my siblings and all 3 of my children are all boys…and I also have two step-brothers!

6.) I had never run a whole mile without stopping in my life until late 2012. Now I’m one of those weirdos who considers running to be good stress relief, actually wants to go running, and misses it when I don’t. (I didn’t say I liked it…that’s a whole other level of crazy I haven’t yet reached!)

7.) I really, really, really enjoy cooking…now that I know how to. When I left home the most I could do was follow directions on a meal-in-a-box.

8.) I really, really, really hate cleaning up from #7

9.) I’m a ‘real foodie’ – a foodie who loves real food. This was a huge change for me several years back, made necessary by our oldest son’s health struggles. God used that trial to transform our household’s eating habits into healthier, tastier ones, and we’re all so much healthier and happier.

10.) I love the bounty of a garden…but I hate all the actual gardening, and I’m not any good at it. Thankfully, I have sons and a husband that are good at it, and our middle son particularly enjoys the ins and outs of gardening.

11.) Up until my early twenties, I was able to fit my entire fist in my mouth.

12.) The summer before 9th grade I decided to take up the saxophone. I took lessons that summer and was able to land 1st chair that following school year…in a small Christian High School with only two other saxophones, but still… 😀

13.) I took my first sewing class when I was about 9 years old, and was smitten for life. I love to teach sewing, and I look forward to a season in the future when I have time to sew more projects myself.

14.) My feet consistently grew ½ size larger with each of my pregnancies.

15.) I homeschool our children – we’ll begin our 7th school year this fall – and we absolutely love it. We made that transition from classroom to home later than many do, but that’s a whole other story. We’re proof that it can be done, and it can be done with a mother who used to be completely opposed to the idea.

16.) My husband and I love to read, and we love books. Mostly non-fiction. We do have Kindles, but prefer the feel and smell of real books. When we have discretionary income, adding to our library is a substantial line item in our budget – one we have no trouble agreeing on.

17.) My grandmother (Mama Rusty) was so, so special to me. From time to time I enjoy pulling out our record player and Mama Rusty’s record collection. She was a fan of big band and jazz, which I’ve always been naturally drawn to. Listening to her music gives me that cozy, family feeling and brings out memories of her I then share with the kids. They will ask to pull out the records, nowadays, and ask me to tell them the old stories again. Those are precious times to me.

18.) I enjoy the outdoors…when insects are kind enough to leave me alone. This means you will find me outdoors a lot in the fall and winter, and not so much in spring or summer.

19.) I used to loathe both Brussels sprouts and asparagus, but now they are my two favorite vegetables.

20.) God blessed me with the most amazing husband possible. There are writing prompts in the list that will allow me to brag on him later, but I couldn’t finish this list without mentioning him. ❤
